Job summary

Stockport Council's Adoption Counts service is seeking a Business Support Officer to support the Adoption Support service, assisting adopters, their children, and adopted adults. You will be the first point of contact by phone or webmail, signposting to partners and safeguarding information.

The role involves maintaining the case management system, generating reports, and handling sensitive data. Hybrid working is available, with some home-working alongside office presence.

Responsibilities

  • Be the first point of contact for telephone or webmail enquiries from users of Adoption Counts services.
  • Signpost callers to other organisations and services where applicable.
  • Support the Keeping in Touch Team to facilitate correspondence between adopters and birth relatives.
  • Search for adoption records relating to Adopted Adults.
  • Carry out administrative tasks and maintain information on the case management system.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders with a flexible approach to providing support.

Scale 5 (£16,767.08 - £18,188.27 per annum)


21 Hours, Part Time (Wednesday to Friday)

Wythenshawe - The Service offers Hybrid working, with some working from home.

Your Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join Adoption Counts as a Business Support Officer, supporting the Adoption Support service in providing services to adopters and their children, and adopted adults.


As the first point of contact you will take telephone or webmail enquiries from individuals accessing a wide range of services, responding with tact and diplomacy and to act as gatekeeper, signposting callers to other organisations and services where applicable.


Supporting the Keeping in Touch Team (KITT) to provide a facility for the exchange of correspondence between adopters and birth relatives to help adopted children have a better understanding of their family history.


To carry out searches to locate the adoption records in relation to Adopted Adults.


Undertake a variety of administrate tasks to include maintaining information on the case management system to ensure records are accurate and up to date, generate system reports, handling confidential, sensitive, and personal data in a secure and safe manner.


You will work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders with a flexible approach to providing the support required.

About You

You will need to be self‑motivated, remain calm under pressure and be able to communicate effectively with callers to the service, your colleagues, and other professionals.


You will have strong organisational skills, be able to work on your own and as part of a team, using your initiative to ensure key work is completed to meet statutory timeframes.


You need to be flexible and proactive in your approach and be able to prioritise your workload daily,


You should be computer literate and be proficient in working with standard office IT applications including MS Office 365 and SharePoint. You will be expected to learn how to navigate in‑house ICT systems to work with data and information.
