A new opportunity to grow with us

Salary: £45,000 to £48,000 per annum

Hours: Full time

Location: Head Office, with regular travel across Trust services

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer

About the role

The Kent Autistic Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to join us as our Business Support, Compliance & Governance Manager.

This is a newly developed role providing practical support to our Chief Executive Officer, Senior Management Team, Heads of Operations and wider organisation. This is an opportunity for someone with experience of health and social care services who wants to broaden their career across governance, compliance, reporting, organisational projects, business development and wider organisational activities including conferences, conventions and events.

You will help us bring together and analyse information, support governance and reporting, keep abreast of changing regulatory and compliance requirements, coordinate actions and assist colleagues in translating requirements into practical processes and documentation.

This will not be a purely desk-based role. You will spend time getting to know our services, managers and teams, helping ensure that your work reflects the realities of delivering regulated social care services. You may also support colleagues with compliance queries, training and briefings, bid and tender submissions, contract requirements, Care Act matters and wider organisational projects.

The role supports the work of our operational leaders. Accountability for operational quality, service performance and routine service assurance remains with our Heads of Operations and operational management teams.

What you will be doing

Your work will be varied and may include:

  • Supporting the CEO, Senior Management Team and committees with governance information, reports, meeting papers and action tracking.
  • Collating and analysing information relating to compliance, safeguarding, health and safety, contracts and other organisational priorities.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant CQC requirements, health and safety duties, contract compliance, Charity Commission expectations and other requirements affecting the Trust.
  • Helping colleagues understand and respond to new or changing requirements.
  • Supporting the development and review of processes, procedures, templates, guidance and evidence.
  • Producing accurate and professionally presented reports, briefings, presentations and management information.
  • Visiting services to build relationships, understand how they operate and provide practical support alongside the Operations Team.
  • Supporting managers with defined quality or compliance queries, information gathering and documentation.
  • Coordination of organisational conferences, conventions and events.
  • Contributing to briefings, workshops, training or coaching activities.
  • Supporting colleagues with bids and tenders for health and social care contracts.
  • Assisting with contract, commissioning, funding and Care Act information where required.
  • Coordinating projects and following agreed actions through to completion.
  • Using technology, data and AI-enabled tools competently and appropriately to deliver high-quality work.
What you must have

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Experience of working within health or social care services.
  • An understanding of how regulated care services operate.
  • Awareness of CQC requirements and the importance of safeguarding, health and safety and compliance within care services.
  • Experience of supporting managers, teams or organisational activities.
  • Experience of preparing reports, coordinating activity, managing information or maintaining documentation.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Good analytical skills, with the ability to bring information together, identify themes and maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload and competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to completing work to a high standard.
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365, digital systems and data.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and take agreed work through to completion.
  • The confidence to build constructive relationships with staff, managers and senior colleagues.
  • A reliable, enthusiastic and supportive approach.
  • The ability and willingness to travel regularly to Trust services across Kent and Medway.
What you may bring or develop

It would be helpful, but is not essential on appointment, if you have experience or knowledge of:

  • Governance or committee support.
  • Compliance or organisational assurance.
  • Adult social care or services for autistic people and people with learning disabilities.
  • Contract compliance, commissioning or Charity Commission requirements.
  • Bid or tender submissions.
  • Training, coaching, workshops or staff briefings.
  • Care Act challenges or funding-related matters.
  • Project coordination or business improvement.
  • Using AI-enabled tools to support analysis, research, drafting and productivity.
  • We do not expect applicants to have experience in every aspect of this developing role. We are looking for someone with the right health and social care foundations, strong transferable skills and the ambition to grow.

During your first year, you will be supported to learn about the Trust, our services, our governance arrangements and the regulatory and contractual environment in which we operate.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, you will have opportunities to:
  • Take greater responsibility for established reporting and governance cycles.
  • Support more complex compliance and organisational projects.
  • Contribute to training and workforce briefings.
  • Build experience in bids, tenders, commissioning and contract work.
  • Develop deeper expertise in areas such as governance, compliance, business improvement or organisational assurance.
  • Become a knowledgeable and trusted source of practical support for managers and teams.
  • The scope of the role may develop over time in line with organisational need, your capability and your career aspirations.
About you

Were looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, turning information into meaningful insight and helping ensure that important work keeps moving forward.

You’ll be a reliable, positive and motivated individual who enjoys working with people, isn’t afraid to ask questions and takes pride in seeing tasks through to completion. Whilst you’ll need strong foundations and relevant experience, were not expecting the finished article from day one. Curiosity, initiative and a genuine desire to learn about the Trust, our services and the people we support are just as important.

If you have a health or social care background and are looking for an opportunity to broaden your experience across governance, compliance, organisational support and business development, wed love to hear from you.
