Job summary

SciMed is seeking an organised Operations & Business Support Assistant to join our Stockport team. You will support directors, coordinate service administration, and assist with finance tasks and basic IT duties. Training will be provided, including Sage 200, with a view to developing across operations, finance, and customer service.

The role offers a competitive salary (25,000–35,000) and a strong benefits package, including a bonus potential up to 15% and private health insurance.

Qualifications

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word and Teams.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Professional, reliable and adaptable with a hands‑on approach.
  • Experience in a science/engineering environment is advantageous.
  • Sage 200 knowledge is beneficial but full training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide business and administrative support to Directors and senior management.
  • Support service administration, including scheduling engineers and processing orders.
  • Assist with invoices, expenses, purchase orders and general finance admin.
  • Provide holiday/absence cover across service admin, finance and stores.
  • Produce reports, presentations and business documentation.
  • Coordinate meetings, travel and diary management.
  • Deliver first-line IT queries support with Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Support stock control, goods receiving and dispatch when required.
  • Assist with basic laboratory support tasks after training.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to process improvements.
  • Collaborate across departments to keep operations running smoothly.

About the Role

This is a highly varied and rewarding role supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the business. Working closely with senior leaders and colleagues across multiple departments, you'll provide business and operational support, assist with finance administration, coordinate service administration activities and help keep internal processes running efficiently. You'll also have the opportunity to support basic IT, stores and laboratory activities, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, learning new skills and becoming a trusted member of a close-knit team. Full training will be provided, including Sage 200. An understanding of finance and accounts administration, and/or a background within a scientific, engineering or other STEM-related environment, would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Comfortable working within a scientific, engineering or technical environment (highly desirable)
  • Experience of Sage 200 would be advantageous but is not essential, as full training will be provided
  • A STEM-related background would be beneficial but is not essential for candidates with strong transferable experience
  • Desirable: Previous experience within business support, administration or office management
  • An understanding of accounts or financial administration, including invoice processing and record keeping
