Qualifications
The role involves establishing a top-tier London Rating Team focusing on Landlord and Occupier instructions related to the Check Challenge Appeal process for the 2023 revaluation. It requires working closely with the National Head of Business Rates to build the team, focusing on immediate 2023 List instructions and business development for the 2026 Revaluation. This role emphasizes strategic business development within a new service line under our wider tax offering. It also involves delivering complex business rates cases.
You will target both Landlord and Occupier work, advising on the Check Challenge and Appeal process and offering advice on empty rates mitigation. Experience with Valuation Tribunal attendance and working with external barristers on key cases is essential.
You should be a senior Rating professional with MRICS/IRRV status, at least 5 years post-qualification, with experience managing junior staff and operating within the London and South-East Rating market. You will help build and manage the London Rating Team, reporting regularly to senior leadership.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional business generator and negotiator, capable of formulating and implementing business strategies. You should have a strong aptitude for business development and collaboration across service lines to identify opportunities, especially related to the 2023 and 2026 revaluations.
Once established, you will manage a growing team to meet broader objectives over five years, working closely with the Head of Business Rates to grow and promote this new offer.
Technical experience should include knowledge of key business rates software, with proficiency in Riverlake and Analyse software highly desirable. Staying updated on government rating legislation and case law is crucial, as is applying this knowledge in negotiations and client advice.
You will handle a personal rating case load related to the Check Challenge Appeal process, familiar with the government gateway and operating within the regulated procedures for submitting Checks and negotiating with the VOA.
