The Opportunity

Our Advisory Services Business has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Operations / Business Process Improvement Consultant to join in the North region. You will apply in-depth knowledge and skills in operational excellence to lead the delivery of a range of client projects, focussing principally on the science and industrial sector but also transport, water and energy. This role will deliver on a range of high-profile projects with clients globally and will give you the opportunity to leverage your skills to resolve problems and recommend solutions on projects.

We are looking for someone to help us grow our capability in operations & business process improvement, who has the drive and ambition to join a growing team and be a key part of our leadership to continue to develop our client base and presence in the region (UK). You will help win, manage and deliver projects providing strategic and operational advice to a range of clients. Working closely with clients to understand their needs and challenges and leading multidisciplinary teams. You will build on your technical knowledge and provide general and technical advice to clients drawing on others from across Arup and our supply chain partners as required.

Is this role right for you?

As a Business Process Improvement/Operations Lead, you will take the lead in the development of proposals, setting out win themes, scope requirements, developing client relationships, building internal and external networks to identify capability needed. You will be responsible for the project management and technical delivery of operations focused projects, with oversight and support from the Arup Project Director. This will include:

  • Project management of projects up to circa £5m. Delivering project commercial success by demonstrating good commercial discipline and delivering work within set expectations.
  • Leads the technical delivery of projects. Leveraging own experience and operational skills to resolve problems and recommend solutions on projects.
  • Draw on best practice business performance diagnostic tools and process improvement tools to deliver on one or more of the following areas: Operations/ Business performance improvement; Operations expansion/consolidation/ relocation; New venture development and diversification of product and service offerings; Strategic alignment of operations; Operational excellence.
  • Review and analyse operational performance and operational design, supporting the development of the business case for change initiatives including Operational readiness and transition and the embedment of circular economy principles.

As part of our leadership team you will also lead the development of methodologies, tools, thought leadership papers, and the Business Process Improvement community of practice and Operations Consulting skills network to help shape our future direction and lead our current team.

Requirements:

  • Typically a degree and/or with relevant work experience in operations and/or business performance improvement within a consulting or client environment.
  • A background in the science & industry, transport, energy or water sectors within a senior consulting role.
  • Developing client relationships, leading to business proposals for clients, by understanding their requirements and drawing together expertise from across a multi-disciplinary firm.
  • Project management and technical leadership role on projects.
