Job summary

Adjacency Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the Royal Alfred Maritime Charity based in Surrey. The role involves overseeing non-clinical service delivery and managing budgets to maintain high standards of service for former seafarers and their dependents.

Ideal candidates will have proven leadership experience in care or housing environments, along with strong organisational and budgeting skills. A DBS certification for working with vulnerable adults is required. This is a collaborative role focused on both operational priorities and resident needs.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading multi-function support operations in care, housing, health or similarly regulated settings.
• Ability to use administrative and IT systems effectively.
• Experience in managing suppliers and contracts.

Responsibilities

• Lead non-clinical service delivery including domestic and maintenance services.
• Manage suppliers and contracts against service levels and budgets.
• Oversee the housing scheme for effective management of tenants.
• Handle health and safety management including risk assessments.
• Be responsible for budget control for the Home, Housing, and Estate operations.
• Line manage allocated staff including supervision and performance management.

Job description

Founded in 1865, and established by Royal Charter, the Royal Alfred is a much respected and widely known Maritime Charity based in Surrey providing a Nursing Care Home and affordable Housing for former seafarers and their dependents. Due to the impending retirement of the current Chief Executive Officer, they are seeking a dynamic individual to take on this exciting opportunity to build upon recent achievements and to meet the challenge of maintaining a first-class service to the Society's beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership of non‑clinical service delivery including domestic and laundry services, estates and maintenance of buildings and grounds, transport, security and porterage.
• Manage suppliers and contracts against service levels and value for money, including services commonly delivered off-site (e.g. HR support, payroll, IT support).
• Oversight of the housing scheme to ensure effective, compassionate and compliant management for tenants.
• Day to day health and safety management, including risk assessments, action planning and compliance with food safety requirements.
• Budget ownership for Home, Housing and Estate, with effective in‑year control and reporting.
• Line management of allocated staff, including recruitment support, rota planning, supervision and appraisal, attendance and performance management, and staff development.

Potential candidates for this pivotal role will ideally have proven experience leading multi-function support operations in care, housing, health or similarly regulated settings. You will be able to demonstrate strong budgetary control,planning and organisational skills, with confidence using administrative and IT systems.
