Job Description

We are recruiting for a Business Management Support Officer who will play a key role in supporting the effective operation of the business unit by delivering a broad range of administrative and coordination responsibilities. The position will involve:

  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and provide advice.
  • Ensuring all outputs and activities are compliant with departmental policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Supporting workforce planning activities and assisting with onboarding, offboarding, and induction processes.
  • Providing logistical and administrative support for visits and trawls.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date organisational charts for the Operations function, reflecting structural changes as required.
  • Communicating policy updates, team activities, outputs, and broader business unit developments clearly and effectively to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collecting, processing, and analysing data to produce reports and briefings in agreed formats.
  • Ad hoc tasks to support the Director and wider team.

  • Has experience in supporting workforce planning activities, acting as the key liaison between HR and operational leadership to ensure workforce needs are met effectively.
  • Experience in supporting essential business functions.
  • Competent in data collection, processing, and analysis with the ability to produce concise reports, briefings, and submissions for senior stakeholders.

Hybrid Working

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office will also count towards this level of attendance. Applicants can request further information regarding how this may work in their team from the vacancy holder (see advert for contact details). This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
