Job summary

OpenTable, Inc. is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer who blends data engineering, analytics and applied AI to build robust data infrastructure and intelligent automations. You will shape how data and AI are used across the business, partnering with stakeholders to deliver measurable impact and scalable solutions.

You'll design pipelines, apply AI APIs, and turn data into actionable insights, while owning projects end to end and ensuring reliability and maintainability of systems.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Python and SQL, with hands-on data engineering experience.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Experience delivering AI, data or automation initiatives that improve operations.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable data infrastructure: design, develop and maintain data pipelines and models.
• Develop AI-powered solutions using modern AI APIs to automate processes.
• Turn data into actionable insights with analytical tools and automated systems.
• Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate needs into technical solutions.
• Own solutions end to end from discovery to deployment and optimization.
• Prove programming expertise with Python and SQL across pipelines and automations.
• Work with Snowflake and orchestration tools like Apache Airflow for data warehousing and pipelines.
• Integrate AI APIs/LLMs into business applications and workflows.
• Communicate complex concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Maintain a solutions-oriented mindset, navigating ambiguity and delivering value.

Job description

We're looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer who thrives at the intersection of data engineering, analytics and applied AI. Someone who can build robust data infrastructure, develop intelligent automations and turn complex business challenges into scalable, practical solutions. This isn't a traditional BI role focused solely on reporting and dashboards. You'll have the opportunity to shape how we use data, AI and automation across the business, working closely with stakeholders to solve meaningful problems and deliver measurable impact.

What You’ll Do

• Build scalable data infrastructure: Design, develop and maintain reliable data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and data models that support analytics and business operations.
• Develop AI-powered solutions: Apply modern AI technologies and APIs to build intelligent workflows, automate processes and solve real business challenges.
• Turn data into actionable insights: Create analytical tools, reporting solutions and automated systems that improve decision-making, efficiency and business performance.
• Partner with stakeholders: Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to gather requirements, understand challenges and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
• Own solutions end to end: Lead projects from discovery and design through development, deployment and optimisation, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable and maintainable.
• Proven programming expertise: Hands‑on experience with Python and SQL, including developing data pipelines, integrations and automated workflows.
• Modern data engineering experience: Proficiency with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouses, alongside data modelling, ETL/ELT processes and orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
• Practical applied AI knowledge: Experience integrating modern AI APIs, large language models (LLMs) or AI-powered technologies into business applications and workflows.
• Excellent stakeholder management: Proven ability to gather requirements, challenge assumptions and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
• A solutions‑focused mindset: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to independently navigate ambiguity, prioritise effectively and deliver reliable, commercially valuable solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with advanced AI techniques such as retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), embeddings, vector databases or AI agent workflows.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Experience with analytics engineering tools such as dbt, alongside Git, CI/CD or modern software development practices.
• Previous experience in a technology‑led marketplace, SaaS, hospitality, travel or e‑commerce environment.
• A track record of delivering AI, data or automation initiatives that have resulted in measurable operational improvements.
