Job summary

A&O Shearman is seeking a proactive Business Development Analyst to support the London restructuring team and capital solutions group. You will turn goals into strategic work products, analyze market opportunities, and manage pitches, client campaigns, and BD systems for busy lawyers.

Working closely with the Client Opportunities Consultant and global co-heads, you will develop client plans, track activities in Dynamics, and coordinate events, campaigns, and reporting, while ensuring data

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day business development for London restructuring team and capital solutions group
• Analyze the restructuring market and identify emerging opportunities with Client Opportunities Consultant
• Provide reactive and proactive support to lawyers, including managing pitch pipeline and campaigns
• Support Global Co-Heads of the Restructuring Group with global initiatives
• Develop client plans, contact maps, and meeting records; maintain data in Dynamics
• Track client development plans, goals, and actions for priority accounts
• Coordinate client meetings, briefings, events, and targeted follow-ups
• Track marketing spend and ROI against the Restructuring BD budget
• Develop watchlist decks and monitor related calls and follow-ups
• Coordinate calls with financial advisers and analyze decks to support opportunity development

• Work with the Client Opportunities Consultant to analyze the restructuring market and identify emerging opportunities
• Provide reactive and proactive support to lawyers, including managing the pitch pipeline, client development, campaigns, client touchpoints, and business development systems and processes
• Support the Global Co-Heads of the Restructuring Group with global initiatives and activities
• Develop client plans, contact maps, and meeting records; maintain high-quality data in Dynamics
• Track client development plans, goals, coverage, contacts, and actions for priority accounts
• Coordinate client meetings, briefings, and events, and prepare targeted follow-up
• Track marketing spend and return on investment against the Restructuring BD budget and report variances
• Develop watchlist decks and schedule and monitor related calls and follow-up tasks
• Coordinate calls with financial advisers and analyze their decks to support opportunity development
• Coordinate business development activities for the London capital solutions group alongside the BD Manager for Debt Finance
• Monitor coverage of financial advisory firms and develop contacts with Octus, 9Fin, Debtwire, and related organizations
• Monitor league table submissions and prepare LinkedIn updates following results
• Monitor closing memorandums and update Chambers, IFLR, and Legal 500 submissions
• Manage directory and award submissions, interviews, and follow-up; monitor upcoming awards and suggest opportunities
• Support profile enhancement and speaking engagements, including LinkedIn posts
• Use approved marketing AI tools and agents in line with the firm’s AI usage policy
• Complete the marketing function’s mandatory AI capability program and apply AI skills to role-related work
• Demonstrate progress in applied AI skills through contributions to personal and team output
• Work with the pitch team, pricing colleagues, and lawyers to prepare and maintain pitch decks and precedents
• Tailor credentials and case studies to client needs and support rehearsals and Q&A preparation
• Execute events and marketing campaigns and track engagement metrics
• Manage event logistics and follow-up within agreed timelines and budgets
• Ensure consistent, evidence-based messaging in market-facing materials
• Work with global restructuring co-heads and colleagues across regions, practices, sectors, and central teams
• Join global and European practice calls and support agendas and follow-up
• Support global practice activities and initiatives
• Monitor international partner visits and coordinate client meetings
• Promote consistent use of firm systems and templates and maintain file and version standards
• Participate in change initiatives, share ideas, and help embed new ways of working
• Escalate blockers and propose practical fixes
• Support resourcing across competing priorities and time zones
• Contribute tips, examples, and improvements to team playbooks and libraries
• Help onboard new team members by sharing best practices for common business development tasks
