Are you a dynamic, results-driven sales professional with a passion for premium wines and a deep knowledge of London’s on-trade scene? Berkmann Wine Cellars is seeking a Business Development Manager to help expand our presence in the capital’s prestigious restaurants, bars, and hotels.

Our exclusive agency brands are widely admired in the on-trade sector for their quality, authenticity, and innovation.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Sales – London, your primary goal will be to secure profitable new wine accounts across the Central London on-trade sector. You’ll be the face of our exceptional producers and play a vital role in elevating Berkmann’s portfolio across the hospitality industry.

Your Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

  • Identify and convert new business opportunities in the on-trade sector.
  • Be a passionate ambassador for Berkmann and our world-renowned wineries.
  • Build lasting relationships with decision-makers in restaurants, bars, and hotels.
  • Present our premium wine portfolio with authority and flair.
  • Lead strategic sales planning to meet and exceed revenue targets.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements to secure long-term, profitable partnerships.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams to deliver excellent service.
  • Represent the company at tastings, events, and networking functions.
  • Track your performance and share insights with the Head of Sales – London.
  • Keep abreast of market trends and competitor activity to stay ahead.
  • Help shape our portfolio to meet evolving customer and consumer needs.
  • Challenge convention to drive sales and maximise gross profit.

What We Are Looking For

  • Minimum of WSET Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Proven success in business development within the on-trade wine industry.
  • Strong knowledge of fine wines and a genuine passion for prestigious producers.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • A strong network within London’s on-trade scene
  • A self-starter attitude with relentless drive and excellent organisational skills.
  • Confident negotiator with a sharp commercial edge.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Analytical, commercially astute, and numerate – comfortable with pricing models and P&L interpretation

Working Pattern

This is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:30pm. However, given the nature of our clients in the hospitality sector, flexibility is essential — evening and occasional weekend work will be required to support customer needs, events, and tastings. Some activities may also involve international travel, so a valid passport is necessary.

Work Location

You will be field based but will need to live within commuting distance to central London due to the client base you will be looking after. Our head office is based in central London and there will be times when you are also expected to work from there.
