Job description

Business Development Executive

Metro Rod Bristol

Permanent, full time

Salary £33,000 + commission & benefits (50K OTE)

Know drainage? Ready for a new challenge?

Do you currently work in a drainage or plumbing office, supporting engineers, coordinating jobs, preparing quotations or speaking with customers? Or perhaps you are an Engineer looking to down tools and have a change of direction…. If you understand the industry and enjoy building relationships, this could be your opportunity to take the next step into sales and business development.

You don’t need to be an established salesperson. We’re looking for someone with relevant industry experience, commercial curiosity and the confidence to turn conversations into opportunities.

About Us

Metro Rod and Metro Plumb provide professional drainage and plumbing services to homes and businesses. Our Bristol franchise supports customers with everything from reactive callouts to planned maintenance and repairs.

We’re looking to grow our local customer base, develop existing relationships and help businesses keep their plumbing and drainage running smoothly.

About The Role

You’ll help grow our plumbing and drainage business across Bristol and the surrounding area. Working closely with our office and engineering teams, you’ll understand what customers need, explain how we can help and follow opportunities through from the first conversation to securing the work.

This is a hands‑on role combining telephone conversations, customer visits, networking and quotation follow-ups. It would suit someone ready to build on their operational knowledge and take greater ownership of customer relationships and business growth.

Your Main Responsibilities Will Be
  • Identifying and approaching potential customers, including facilities managers, property managers and local businesses.
  • Building relationships with existing customers and identifying opportunities to provide additional services.
  • Speaking with customers about their plumbing and drainage requirements and arranging meetings or site visits where appropriate.
  • Working with our operational team to prepare accurate quotations and service proposals.
  • Following up quotations, answering questions and converting enquiries into confirmed work.
  • Promoting our reactive services, planned maintenance and repair capabilities.
  • Keeping customer records, sales activity and opportunities accurate and up to date.
  • Working towards agreed sales targets while ensuring we deliver a professional, reliable customer experience.
Ideal Candidates Will
  • Have experience working within a drainage and/or plumbing business, ideally in an office, administration, scheduling, quotations or customer service role.
  • Have a basic understanding of plumbing or drainage services and how jobs are managed.
  • Enjoy speaking with people and feel confident building new relationships.
  • Be proactive, organised and comfortable following up opportunities.
  • Be willing to contact prospective customers and develop confidence in sales.
  • Have a positive, resilient attitude and a genuine desire to learn and progress.
  • Be comfortable using computer systems and maintaining accurate records.

Previous sales experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential. Your industry knowledge, attitude and potential are what matter most.

What We Offer
  • An opportunity to move into sales and business development using the industry knowledge you already have.
  • Support from an experienced office and engineering team.
  • Personal development and opportunities to build your commercial skills.
  • Company pension.
  • 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
Ready to put your industry knowledge to work in a new way?

If you understand plumbing or drainage, enjoy working with customers and want to challenge yourself in a role where you can make a visible difference, we’d love to hear from you.

We are an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marriage or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
