Job summary

Scottish Water is seeking a data analytics professional to support Project Compass and our transformation programme. You will transform raw data from multiple systems into meaningful insights and develop dashboards using PowerBI to drive performance improvements.

You’ll work with SQL and Python to automate workflows, support root-cause analysis, and promote proactive decision making, while aligning with Lean and Agile ways of working across a range of business areas.

What you’ll do

As part of the ICC Business Support Team, you'll play a key role in supporting Project Compass and Scottish Water's wider transformation programme, helping maximise the value of our Data Lakehouse, telemetry data, and operational information assets.

The role will focus heavily on data analysis, business intelligence, automation, and performance insight generation to support operational excellence across the business.

Working closely with the ICC Management Team to support our stakeholders across Scottish Water, you'll collect, analyse, and interpret large and complex datasets from a variety of operational, customer, and asset management systems.

Using advanced analytical techniques and modern data tools, you'll transform raw data into meaningful insights that support evidence‑based decision‑making and drive measurable business improvements.

A major part of the role will involve designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards, reports, and automated solutions using technologies such as PowerBI, SQL, Python, and PowerAutomate to implement workflows.

You'll identify trends, patterns, risks, and opportunities within operational data, providing actionable recommendations that improve performance, efficiency, resilience, and customer outcomes.

You'll use Lean and Agile principles to identify opportunities for process improvement, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance operational performance.

By supporting continuous improvement initiatives and promoting flexible, iterative ways of working, you'll help ensure work is delivered efficiently, responds effectively to changing priorities, and consistently provides value for customers and stakeholders.

You'll lead analytical investigations into emerging operational issues, support root cause analysis activities, and develop innovative solutions that help the ICC move from reactive reporting towards proactive and predictive decision‑making.

In addition, you'll support and deliver continuous improvement projects from concept through to implementation, ensuring benefits are clearly measured and realised.

You'll work collaboratively with stakeholders across multiple business areas, helping develop data‑driven cultures and promoting best practice in reporting, automation, and business intelligence.

The successful candidate will become a key contributor to Scottish Water’s growing use of data, analytics, and digital technology, helping unlock the full potential of our Data Lakehouse and supporting the delivery of strategic business objectives.

What you’ll need

We're looking for a highly analytical individual who is passionate about data and enjoys solving complex business problems through technology and insight. You should have experience working with large datasets and a strong understanding of data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence techniques.

You'll be comfortable using data to identify trends, challenge assumptions, and provide evidence-based recommendations to stakeholders at all levels.

You’ll have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using SQL to extract, manipulate and analyse data, and Python to develop analytical solutions that deliver actionable insights.

You’ll be confident creating reports and dashboards in PowerBI, as well as building workflows and process automations using PowerAutomate.

A strong understanding of data management, data quality and reporting principles is essential, alongside the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

You’ll have experience gathering business requirements and translating them into effective reporting and automation solutions.

Experience working with Data Lakehouse, data warehousing or cloud-based data platforms would be advantageous, as would knowledge of process mapping and business process improvement methodologies.

Familiarity with SharePoint and the wider Microsoft Power Platform, ISO and other operational management frameworks, and experience supporting transformation, operational improvement or digital change programmes would also be beneficial.

An understanding of Lean and Agile principles, with the ability to support continuous improvement and the efficient delivery of business value, is also desirable.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade6. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £37,815. Performance‑driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £48,395.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre‑employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, licence checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date.
