Job summary

Scottish Water in Galashiels is seeking a Tankering Team member to support safe, compliant sludge transportation across Scotland. You’ll operate private septic tank services for domestic and commercial customers and represent Scottish Water with professionalism and care.

You’ll ensure vehicle checks, adhere to Health and Safety regulations, and optimise tanker usage. A CPC card and Cat C license are preferred, and there is a company bonus scheme plus generous holiday and pension provisions.

Job description

Join our Tankering Team in Galashiels and you’ll help our teams make sure Scotland has a constant supply of safe, high-quality water.

What you’ll do

To support our commitments around protecting the environment the Tankering Team within Scottish Water provides an essential waste transportation service from both Water and Wastewater treatment sites.

You will carry out a private septic tank service to domestic and commercial customers where our drivers act as ambassadors for us with these customers.

The team operates across all areas of Scotland and utilise both rigid and articulated tankers removing sludge from various Wastewater Treatment Plants and Public septic tanks.

You will ensure all work undertaken complies with all relevant Health and Safety Regulations, completing vehicle checks and inspections, liaising with fleet on aspect of vehicle maintenance, repairs, servicing, and MOT’s.

You will also ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Scottish Water policies and procedures relating to sludge transportation.

What you’ll bring

We’ll get you fully up to speed on the technical bits of the job. You’ll bring strong communication skills and confidence working on your own.

We are also looking for you to have the ability to ensure your work is delivered professionally, efficiently and on time, play a key role optimising Tanker usage for Scottish Water.

Can plan and prioritise your work whilst maintaining a flexible approach to accommodate changing priorities and be able to build trust and credibility with customers who you interact with, being focussed on their needs and acting as an ambassador for Scottish Water.

Ideally, we would like you to be a holder of a valid CPC card and valid Cat C license.

Salary

This role will be a Grade 3. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £30,030. Performance‑driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £34,050.
