Job description

How's this for job satisfaction: At Scottish Water Horizons (SWH), we harness Scottish Water (SW) expertise and assets to generate income. All profits are reinvested by Scottish Water Horizons for the benefit of our customers and communities. Sound good?

It's an exciting time to be joining our team as we enter a new phase of growth. We have bold ambitions. We are ramping up the pace and scale of our projects and we're working with some of the brightest people in the industry.

We're looking for someone who is up for the challenge. Someone who can use their commercial experience and financial acumen to support critical project delivery. Someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced and driven environment. Someone who is passionate about making a difference.

Scottish Water Horizons

SWH are a part of Scottish Water and play a key role in helping housing developers, and commercial property developers ensure that water and wastewater infrastructure has the capability to meet Scottish Water's requirements.

We are a commercially sustainable, stand‑alone business leading the way in encouraging growth, establishing renewable technologies and transforming utilities across the Scottish Water landscape. Our varied business engagements include developer projects, development centres, low carbon energy projects, low carbon heat projects, and waste management to name but a few.

What you'll do

You’ll be the financial backbone, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and forecasting. Your analytical prowess will shine as you produce crucial commercial and contractual information, ensuring strict compliance with programme constraints.

In this role, you'll be a key player in managing and mitigating risks, providing unwavering support to both Commercial and Project Management Teams. Your commitment extends to implementing strategic commercial procedures and policies, fostering strong relationships with project delivery teams, internal partners, and the supply chain.

With an eye for detail, you'll meticulously prepare contract documents, ensuring they align with SW and SWH procedures before project commencement. Change is constant, and you'll champion a robust change control process, ensuring value recovery from client contracts and maintaining a keen awareness of the SW Plan, Prepare, and Deliver process.

As a numerate professional with excellent communication skills, you'll administer commercial and contractual aspects, including change control, monthly applications, and accruals. Your high level of computer literacy, motivation, and organizational skills will be put to the test, with proficiency in Microsoft applications and the ability to adapt to bespoke costing/reporting systems.

Beyond the numbers, your role involves reviewing and challenging project tender documents, identifying risks with precision. You'll seamlessly navigate both SWH and SW's business processes, contributing to the development of your team members along the way.

What you'll need

As the ideal candidate for this role, you'll bring a wealth of experience in project management, particularly with standard construction contract forms like NEC4, showcasing your adept administration skills in handling these contracts. Your background as a Quantity Surveyor or in a more senior role within construction or infrastructure, whether in private practice or contracting, will provide a solid foundation for success.

Your proficiency in numeracy and information management will be a standout trait, complemented by effective communication skills that are essential for this dynamic position. Holding a relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Project Management, along with an RICS/CICES qualification (or working towards one), will demonstrate your commitment to professional growth.

Whether working independently or collaboratively, you'll excel, showcasing strong commercial and contracting awareness gained from your valuable experience on both contractor and client‑side projects. Your ability to manage time effectively will align seamlessly with your business and customer‑focused awareness, ensuring successful project outcomes.

Your awareness of organisational aims and objectives will set you apart, as you actively communicate and instil this understanding within the team. Your IT literacy, especially in Microsoft programs and various management/costing/reporting systems, will add a tech‑savvy edge to your skill set.
