Job summary

Baily Garner LLP in London is seeking a Building Surveyor to join our Eltham team. You will collaborate with project leaders, manage schemes and deliver construction documentation across a range of projects, including contract administration and employer’s agent duties, with a focus on quality and client satisfaction.

Ideal candidates have a Building Surveying degree, MRICS status, and strong experience in site surveys, feasibility studies, and design development.

Qualifications

• One year post-qualification experience or equivalent breadth of knowledge.
• Demonstrate excellent core building surveying and project management skills.
• Excellent client interface and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Project Team Leaders and clients to manage schemes, timelines and service delivery.
• Lead Contract Administrator or Employer’s Agent roles across various projects.
• Conduct site visits and produce comprehensive inspection reports.
• Deliver initial appraisals and feasibility studies to guide decisions.
• Carry out measured surveys of existing buildings and sites with precision.
• Develop and present outline design proposals including budgets.
• Prepare scheme designs and full working drawings for construction.
• Manage planning approvals, listed building consent, and Building Control.
• Draft specifications and manage tender processes and reports.
• Prepare and manage contract documentation and maintenance plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with Project Team Leaders and clients, presenting innovative schemes, managing project timelines, and ensuring seamless service delivery.


• Take the lead as Contract Administrator or Employer’s Agent across a range of building projects, utilising all standard forms of construction and assuming full responsibility for project execution.


• Conduct site visits and produce comprehensive inspection reports.


• Deliver initial appraisals and feasibility studies to guide client decision-making.


• Carry out measured surveys of existing buildings and sites, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.


• Develop and present outline design proposals, including budget estimations.


• Prepare comprehensive scheme designs for client approval.


• Produce full working drawings to facilitate project construction.


• Manage statutory approval applications, including Planning, Listed Building Consent and Building Control.


• Draft specifications, schedules of work and assist with bills of quantities.


• Lead the tender process, analyse bids, and compile insightful tender reports.


• Prepare and manage contract documentation, adhering to best practice and verification strategies.


• Develop maintenance manuals and provide ongoing support for completed projects.


• Deliver professional services including Party Wall procedures, schedules of condition, and detailed condition reports for future maintenance planning.

Candidates will ideally:

• Have at least one year’s post-qualification experience (BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or equivalent), or a breadth of knowledge and competence that matches this role


• Hold or be working towards MRICS status


• Have successful experience of working within interdisciplinary project teams


• Be able to demonstrate excellent core building surveying and project management skills


• Excellent client interface skills
