Sweco is seeking an Operations Director for the Building Standards team in Chelmsford. You will lead a team of Building Control Surveyors, drive profit, develop the team, secure client opportunities and align with broader strategic goals.

You’ll oversee budgets, bids, governance and risk management while championing quality, ethics and professional standards across projects. Flexible, hybrid working is available within a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• A degree with a professional qualification such as MRICS, MCIOB or MCABE.
• RBI registration with a proven Building Control track record.
• Good understanding of client projects and the broader division.
• Ability to influence strategic decisions and make commercial calls within defined parameters.

Responsibilities

• Set and manage team budgets and P&L, deliver accurate financial/reporting, and protect margins.
• Manage workload, capacity and resources to meet project objectives with strong governance.
• Build and maintain client relationships, capture feedback, and bid opportunities.
• Develop team capability through coaching and collaboration, and ensure ethical compliance and training.
• Maintain high standards on Building Regulation projects with regulatory compliance.
• Support regional planning and participate in Board discussions, highlighting risks and opportunities.
