Job summary

Cotswold District Council is seeking a Building Safety Technician to join the Building Control team. You will manage the day-to-day administration of the Building Safety Levy, issue notices and invoices, monitor compliance and maintain records.

The role includes processing planning applications, calculating fees, preparing reports and providing technical guidance as needed. You will work in a fast-paced environment with strong organisational skills, precision and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • 5 qualifications equivalent to NVQ2/GCSE; Maths and English required.
  • Experience in an administrative role, ideally in local government or public sector.
  • Familiarity with invoicing and payment tracking processes.
  • Understanding of planning, community infrastructure levy and building control procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records.
  • Demonstrate commitment and resilience to succeed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively; multitask when needed.
  • Proficient with Microsoft and Google applications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day administration of the Building Safety Levy and related notices.
  • Issue invoices, monitor compliance and respond to enquiries.
  • Process Building Regulations applications and calculate fees.
  • Maintain statutory records and prepare performance data/reports.
  • Liaise with customers and occasionally conduct site visits.
  • Support the wider Building Control service with continuous improvement.

About The Role

Building Safety Technician £25,302 - £26,947 per annum 37 hours per week, Permanent contract Cirencester/ agile working At Cotswold District Council, we're looking for a highly organised and proactive individual to join our Building Control team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of Building Control services while taking ownership of the day‑to‑day administration of the new Building Safety Levy. If you're someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced environment, has excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in providing outstanding customer service, we'd love to hear from you.

In this varied role, you'll oversee the day‑to‑day administration of the Building Safety Levy, including issuing notices and invoices, monitoring compliance, maintaining accurate records and responding to enquiries from applicants, agents, colleagues and members of the public. You'll also support the wider Building Control service by processing Building Regulations applications, calculating fees, maintaining statutory records, preparing performance data and reports, and providing routine technical advice. From liaising with customers to carrying out occasional site visits and supporting service improvements, you'll be an integral part of a professional and collaborative team.

We're looking for someone with strong organisational and time management skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy. You'll have experience in an administrative role, be confident using Microsoft and Google applications, and have a good understanding of financial processes such as invoicing and payment tracking. Experience within local government or a public sector environment, and knowledge of Building Control or related regulatory processes, would be an advantage but isn't essential. What you need
  • A minimum of 5 qualifications equivalent to NVQ level 2 or GCSE at Grade C/4 or above, must include Maths and English
  • Experience in an administrative role (Local Authority or Publica Sector setting although not essential)
  • Familiarity with financial processes such as invoicing and payment tracking
  • Understanding of planning, community infrastructure levy and building control procedures and regulatory frameworks
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records
  • Demonstrate commitment and resilience to succeed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Competent in using a range of technology and software packages, including Microsoft and Googl
