Job summary

Portsmouth City Council seeks an experienced Building Safety Officer to support the Fire and Building Safety Manager across housing stock and commercial properties. You will advise social housing, private sector housing and other directorates on building safety and compliance.

The role requires a building surveying or fire safety degree, membership progression with IFE, and experience with high-rise projects. You will produce expert reports and manage complex projects with external consultants.

Qualifications

• Degree in building surveying, fire safety or construction subject.
• Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety.
• Level 6 Diploma in Building Safety Management.
• Excellent knowledge of Building Safety Act and related legislation.
• Experience with high-rise buildings and complex projects.
• Ability to prepare and present detailed technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Fire and Building Safety Manager on building safety tasks.
• Provide guidance on housing stock and commercial properties.
• Advise across social housing, private housing and other directorates.
• Manage and interpret stock data and repair information for reporting.
• Travel between Portsmouth sites to inspect and supervise works.
