Building Porter — Stock, Safety & Site Support

Job summary

Birmingham Hippodrome is seeking a Building Porter to join our onsite team. This 32-hour per week role (0.8 FTE) reports to the Stock Manager and involves work across bars, retail, hospitality, and kitchens to move stock and support building operations.

You will handle, move, and organise stock, assist with stocktakes, and ensure food safety and health & safety procedures are followed. A can-do attitude and strong organisational skills are essential for daily tasks and event support.

Responsibilities

• Moving and transporting stock through the building, including receiving deliveries and storing stock.
• Manual Handling, loading and unloading cages and trolleys.
• Organising stock and rotating stock between cellars and bars, ensuring easy access and safety.
• Assisting with monthly stocktakes and prep for stocktake.
• Food safety and health & safety procedures knowledge and compliance.
• Cleaning and maintenance to required cleanliness standards using COSHH procedures.
• Coordinating with management/events team to ensure stock is delivered on time.
• Assisting events team with room setups, striking, and moving furniture safely.
• Completing daily paperwork: delivery records, temperature checks, cleaning records, and area checks.
• Maintaining equipment such as jet washes, compactor, cages, and trolleys.
• Keeping the compactor yard and bin store clean and safe, supporting waste management and recycling.
• Maintaining high housekeeping, cleanliness, and presentation standards, reporting safety issues.
• Complying with safeguarding, GPR and health and safety requirements, delivering excellent service.
• Willingness to train and act as a First Aider when required.
• Representing Birmingham Hippodrome and serving as an ambassador for the organisation.
