Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking highly motivated Building Physics specialists to join our Buildings and Infrastructure team. The role focuses on applying physics to masterplans, buildings and public realms, delivering energy-efficient, climate-resilient designs across diverse projects.

You will work within a global engineering consultancy, collaborating with stakeholders and design teams, with opportunities to influence net-zero strategies and grow within an employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Building Physics related subjects such as Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Design Engineering, Modern Building Design, Sustainable building design etc
  • Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering, building architecture or similar
  • Working towards MCIBSE or similar
  • Competency in IES VE and EDSL Tas Engineering modelling packages, on regulatory and design modelling exercises
  • Experience in IES APACHE HVAC and/or EDSL Tas Systems
  • Ability to deliver projects using SAP, PHPP and Grasshopper
  • Python coding skills
  • VBA or similar coding skills
  • Competency in delivering projects using BIM tools such as Revit
  • Experience with EnergyPlus, jEPlus or similar
  • Competency in using SketchUp and Sefaira
  • Experience with InDesign and Photoshop

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out thermal modelling of buildings to determine energy performance and climate resilience
  • Preparing qualitative assessments for early-stage design guidance
  • Developing parametric modelling studies for building stock decisions
  • Coaching junior teammates and delivering projects
  • Assisting senior teammates in project delivery
  • Preparing fee proposals, scope of services and resource programmes
  • Leading programme and resource management
