Job description

General Building Maintenance Engineer – Secure Site – Sudbury – Near Burton upon Trent. Call for Salary

This role is based on-site, which has limited access to public transport, so you will need to be able to drive to and from work each day.

There will be a need to work weekends on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.

The General Building Engineer plays an important role in ensuring that planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant, and timely manner.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 17:00; Friday 08:00 – 16:00.

Responsibilities include:

1. Raise, update, and close remedial tasks within the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system.
2. Ensure all critical parts are available for statutory tasks.
3. Carry out general and semi-skilled maintenance activities.
4. Undertake maintenance tasks related to security systems such as CCTV and alarm systems.
5. Conduct monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, fire hydrants, and fire hoses.
6. Check Misting Units regularly.
7. Perform flushing and tap temperature tests as required by water risk assessments.
8. Undertake monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
9. Check and test smoke vents as required.
10. Perform other duties as appropriate to the role.

Unique aspects of this role: You will work alongside the engineers on all maintenance tasks across the site and also work independently. Prison Security Clearance is required, and we will support you through this process.

Candidate requirements:

• Experience in Fire Door Maintenance
• Experience in Fire Extinguisher Maintenance
• Experience in Fire Alarm Core Points
• Experience in Emergency Lighting
• Experience in RCD
• Experience in Water Temperature Testing
• Ideally qualified in multiple maintenance areas listed above, with experience in general building maintenance.

It is desirable, but not essential, to have experience working within a custodial environment with basic Health and Safety knowledge and exposure to building and system compliance. We will provide the necessary training to bring you up to speed.
