Job summary

Schools’ Choice is seeking an experienced Building Control Surveyor to join a Local Authority Building Control team on a rolling contract. The role is predominantly remote with occasional office attendance and site visits as required to ensure regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will advise on Building Regulations, carry out inspections and plan assessments, and manage a diverse caseload while maintaining high standards of customer service and technical excellence.

Qualifications

• Registered Building Inspector with RBI Class 2A or 2A/2C.
• Significant Building Control experience, preferably in LA.
• Strong knowledge of Building Regulations and safety legislation.
• Experience in site inspections and plan assessments.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist with site inspections, plan vetting, approval and supervision of works.
• Deliver a professional Building Control service with high customer service standards.
• Manage a varied caseload of Building Regulation applications.
• Ensure compliance with Building Regulation requirements on site and in plans.
• Keep leadership informed of progress and maintain detailed records.
• Provide guidance on Building Control legislation to developers and professionals.

Building Control Surveyor / Registered Building Inspector (Class 2A or 2A/2C)

Location: Remote Working (with occasional office attendance, approximately once per month)

Contract: Rolling 3-Month Contract

Hours: 37 Hours Per Week

Rate: £60.00 - £70.00 per Hour

Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Building Inspector (Class 2A or Class 2A/2C) to join a Local Authority Building Control team on a rolling contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Building Control professional to provide a high-quality regulatory service, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation while supporting a varied portfolio of residential and commercial developments. The successful candidate will primarily work remotely, with occasional attendance at the office and site visits as required.

Essential Requirements

• Registered Building Inspector (RBI) Class 2A or Class 2A/2C ?
• Significant experience working within Building Control, preferably in a Local Authority environment ?
• Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Safety legislation, and associated statutory requirements ?
• Experience undertaking site inspections and plan assessments ?
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills ?
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site inspections

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with site inspections, plan vetting, approval, and supervision of building work in accordance with Building Regulations and allied legislation.
• Deliver a professional Building Control service that maintains high standards of customer service and technical excellence.
• Manage a varied caseload of Building Regulation applications in line with the officer's level of Class 2 registration.
• Ensure building works, both through plan assessment and on-site inspection, comply with Building Regulation requirements.
• Keep the Team Leader Building Control and Principal Building Control Officer informed of progress on allocated projects.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports relating to regulated building work.
• Provide professional advice and guidance on Building Control legislation to developers, architects, contractors, and members of the public.
• Investigate and assist in resolving breaches of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
• Represent the Council in legal proceedings and provide evidence where required.
• Assist with dangerous structures, ruinous and dilapidated buildings, and statutory demolition control processes.
• Undertake site inspections as necessary to ensure regulatory compliance and public safety.
