Building Control Surveyor / Registered Building Inspector (Class 2A or 2A/2C)

Rate: £60.00 - £70.00 per Hour
Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Registered Building Inspector (Class 2A or Class 2A/2C) to join a Local Authority Building Control team on a rolling contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Building Control professional to provide a high-quality regulatory service, ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation while supporting a varied portfolio of residential and commercial developments. The successful candidate will primarily work remotely, with occasional attendance at the office and site visits as required.
Essential Requirements
- Registered Building Inspector (RBI) Class 2A or Class 2A/2C ?
- Significant experience working within Building Control, preferably in a Local Authority environment ?
- Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, Building Safety legislation, and associated statutory requirements ?
- Experience undertaking site inspections and plan assessments ?
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills ?
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for site inspections
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with site inspections, plan vetting, approval, and supervision of building work in accordance with Building Regulations and allied legislation.
- Deliver a professional Building Control service that maintains high standards of customer service and technical excellence.
- Manage a varied caseload of Building Regulation applications in line with the officer's level of Class 2 registration.
- Ensure building works, both through plan assessment and on-site inspection, comply with Building Regulation requirements.
- Keep the Team Leader Building Control and Principal Building Control Officer informed of progress on allocated projects.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports relating to regulated building work.
- Provide professional advice and guidance on Building Control legislation to developers, architects, contractors, and members of the public.
- Investigate and assist in resolving breaches of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Represent the Council in legal proceedings and provide evidence where required.
- Assist with dangerous structures, ruinous and dilapidated buildings, and statutory demolition control processes.
- Undertake site inspections as necessary to ensure regulatory compliance and public safety.
