Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a fantastic Primary School in Swansea that is seeking a BSL Trained Teaching Assistant to support pupils with ALN from September 2026.

You will communicate using British Sign Language to help learners access lessons, support independence and engagement, and work alongside the class teacher and ALN team.

This long-term temporary role offers market-leading pay, CPD opportunities through My Progression, and dedicated consultant support to guide you through onboarding.

Qualifications

• BSL qualification or proven experience using British Sign Language.
• Experience supporting children in a Primary School or ALN setting.
• Understanding of supporting pupils with additional learning needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patient, caring and proactive approach.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• The successful BSL Trained Teaching Assistant will work with pupils who benefit from BSL, supporting learning, independence and engagement throughout the school day while collaborating with the class teacher and wider ALN team.

The school is looking to appoint a BSL Trained Teaching Assistant on a long-term temporary basis from September 2026. The successful BSL Trained Teaching Assistant will work closely with pupils who benefit from BSL communication, supporting their learning, independence and engagement throughout the school day while working alongside the class teacher and wider ALN team.

The successful BSL Trained Teaching Assistant will have:

• BSL qualification or proven experience using British Sign Language
• Previous experience supporting children within a Primary School or ALN setting
• A good understanding of supporting pupils with additional learning needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A patient, caring and proactive approach
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team
