EDUCO RECRUITMENT LTD is assisting a London primary school to recruit a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position. The role focuses on supporting pupils with hearing or communication needs and enabling access to the curriculum through sign language.

You will work alongside teachers and SEN staff, providing 1:1 and small-group support, promoting inclusion and independence throughout daily activities and lessons.

Qualifications

  • Formal BSL qualification is desirable, but strong practical skills with sign language are welcomed.
  • BSL Level 2 or above is preferred for classroom communication with pupils.
  • Experience in school environments or SEN settings is advantageous.
  • Ability to support Deaf or hard-of-hearing children within classrooms.

Responsibilities

  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate effectively with pupils.
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils.
  • Helping pupils understand classroom instructions and lesson content.
  • Supporting children to express their needs, thoughts and emotions.
  • Reinforcing vocabulary, language and communication skills.
  • Helping pupils participate confidently in classroom discussions and activities.
  • Supporting social interaction and communication with peers.
  • Encouraging pupils to develop confidence and independence.
  • Adapting activities and resources for individual needs.
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaks, and other school day parts.
  • Working with teachers to ensure curriculum access for all pupils.
  • Monitoring progress and communicating observations to staff.
