Job summary

Protocol Education Limited is recruiting a BSL / Makaton Teaching Assistant to support deaf and hard of hearing students in a primary setting in Leeds LS17. This role focuses on enabling communication and participation across lessons.

You will work 1:1, in small groups, or with whole classes, using BSL or Makaton to help pupils access learning. The post offers ongoing training, a supportive team, and flexible opportunities across SEND and specialist settings.

Qualifications

• Experience using BSL or Makaton is essential.
• Patient, positive approach and strong communication skills.
• Experience in SEND or support roles is a bonus, but not essential.
• Genuine care about making a difference in students' learning.

Responsibilities

• Support students with hearing impairments in lessons and daily routines.
• Use BSL or Makaton to help pupils access learning and express themselves.
• Work closely with teachers and specialists in a well-supported department.
• Create a calm, inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
