Job summary

Vida Education is recruiting a BSL Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist Deaf Support provision at a good secondary school in Preston. The successful candidate will support Deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in mainstream lessons and specialist settings, helping them access learning, communicate effectively and develop their confidence and independence.

BSL TEACHING ASSISTANT – PRESTON

Do you hold a British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 qualification or above?

Vida Education is recruiting a BSL Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist Deaf Support provision at a 'Good' secondary school in Preston.

The successful candidate will support Deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in mainstream lessons and specialist settings, helping them access learning, communicate effectively and develop their confidence and independence.

THE ROLE:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
  • Use BSL and Sign-Supported English to support communication.
  • Help pupils access lessons and adapt learning resources where required.
  • Support pupils with hearing aids and assistive technology.
  • Work closely with teachers and the SEND team.
  • Support pupils with EHCP targets and monitor progress.

ESSENTIAL:

  • BSL Level 2 or above.
  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patient, supportive and confident approach.

Experience supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired young people or working within a school/SEND setting would be advantageous.
