Job summary

Matchtech seeks a Bridge Engineer for a permanent role in Chelmsford, Essex. Lead the design and delivery of structure replacement, refurbishment and improvement schemes across Essex, applying Eurocodes, DMRB and MCHW standards.

You will prepare designs, lead projects, monitor programmes, ensure CDM compliance, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions.

Qualifications

• Design experience using Eurocodes and DMRB.
• Knowledge of MCHW and contract specification prep.
• Strong knowledge of highway legislation and safety (CDM).

Our client, a leading organisation in the highways sector, is currently seeking a Bridge Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis in Chelmsford. This opportunity involves leading the design and delivery of structure replacement, refurbishment, and improvement schemes across Essex, using your expertise in highway structures and familiarity with DMRB, MCHW, and Eurocodes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare designs, plans, and programmes for highway structures works and related services
• Provide clear and effective project leadership
• Assist in the management and monitoring of work programmes and service delivery
• Plan and deliver work safely, in accordance with CDM regulations and Health & Safety policies
• Mentor junior staff and review their work for quality and compliance
• Collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Coordinate and manage assigned schemes effectively
• Ensure innovative, high-quality solutions to complex infrastructure challenges

Job Requirements:

• Design expertise using Eurocodes and modern standards, including DMRB
• Assessment expertise with modern standards and DMRB (essential)
• Working knowledge of contract specification preparation and use of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)
• Extensive knowledge and practical application of highway legislation, structural design procedures, standards, and best practices
• Experience in budget governance, financial management, and cost control measures
• Sound knowledge and application of health and safety legislation, including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM)
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to provide technical expertise and leadership within a team
