Job summary

Qualifications

  • Relevant Brickwork or Masonry qualification required.
  • Significant practical experience in brickwork/construction.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or mentoring, preferably in further education or apprenticeships.
  • Willingness to work towards teaching qualification if not already holding one.
  • Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.

  • Promote health, safety, safeguarding, equality, diversity, and professional conduct.
  • Ensure workshops and equipment are used and maintained safely.
  • Keep up to date with brickwork techniques and industry practice.
  • Collaborate with employers and stakeholders to support learner progression.

Brickwork Lecturer

Job Type: Temporary / Full-time

Location: West Durrington, Worthing

Salary: up to £45 per hour

Job Purpose

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Brickwork Lecturer to join our teaching team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality theoretical and practical training in brickwork, supporting learners to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviours required for employment or further study within the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging classroom and practical workshop sessions in brickwork and associated construction skills.
  • Teach learners a range of brickwork techniques, including bricklaying, blockwork, cavity wall construction, pointing, setting out, and basic masonry construction.
  • Prepare lesson plans, learning materials, practical demonstrations, assignments, and assessments.
  • Assess learners' practical and theoretical work against relevant qualification and awarding-body requirements.
  • Provide constructive feedback and appropriate support to help learners achieve their learning goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment, progress, and achievement.
  • Promote high standards of health, safety, safeguarding, equality, diversity, and professional conduct.
  • Ensure workshops, tools, equipment, and learning environments are maintained and used safely.
  • Keep up to date with developments in brickwork techniques, construction technology, legislation, and industry practice.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and other stakeholders to support learner progression.
  • Support learners in developing employability skills and preparing for apprenticeships, employment, or further education.
Essential Requirements
  • Relevant qualification in Brickwork, Masonry, or a related construction discipline.
  • Significant practical experience working in the brickwork/construction industry.
  • Teaching, training, or mentoring experience, ideally within further education, vocational training, or apprenticeships.
  • A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements.
  • Good communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical brickwork techniques confidently and safely.
  • Commitment to supporting learners from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
Desirable Requirements
  • Assessor qualification such as CAVA, TAQA, or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering vocational construction qualifications.
  • Current industry knowledge and relevant construction-related certifications.
  • Experience working with apprentices or work-based learners.
  • Membership of a relevant professional or construction body.
