Job summary

Trigon Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Construction Skills Tutor - Bricklaying to deliver practical bricklaying training at HMP The Mount. You will work with adult learners in a custodial education setting, building industry‑relevant skills and employability.

Qualifications

Level 3 Bricklaying qualification is essential.
Significant occupational experience in bricklaying or construction.
Experience delivering training, mentoring or coaching others.
Strong communication and learner engagement skills.
Ability to motivate and support diverse learners.
Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to manage tools, materials and equipment safely.
Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity and data protection requirements.
Teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, CET, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
Assessor qualification (TAQA, CAVA or equivalent)
Experience delivering vocational qualifications
Experience working within prison education, adult learning or further education
Knowledge of the Ofsted EIF
Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic tools
Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs

Responsibilities

Deliver engaging and practical bricklaying sessions to adult learners.
Plan and deliver structured vocational training aligned to curriculum requirements.
Adapt teaching methods to suit a variety of learning styles and abilities.
Promote safe working practices and construction industry standards.
Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.
Support learners to develop practical skills, confidence and workplace behaviours.
Conduct initial and ongoing learner assessments.
Develop and maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
Provide constructive feedback, coaching and guidance.
Support learners to achieve vocational qualifications and personal goals.
Prepare learners for assessments and progression opportunities.
Help learners build confidence and employability skills for future careers within construction.
Embed key employability skills including teamwork, communication, professional conduct, time management, and workplace expectations.
Support learners to complete Employability Passports and evidence achievement.
Promote literacy, numeracy and digital skills within vocational delivery.
Encourage progression into employment, apprenticeships and further learning.
Carry out daily checks on tools, materials and equipment.
Maintain accurate stock and equipment records.
Ensure compliance with prison security procedures and health & safety requirements.
Instruct learners in the safe use of tools and construction equipment.
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Maintain learner records, reviews and assessment documentation.
Complete registers, reports and ILPs to a high standard.
Support quality assurance and curriculum improvement activities.
Work collaboratively with prison staff, tutors and learner support teams.
Contribute to positive learner outcomes and achievement rates.
