Job summary

Orders of St. John Care Trust in Melksham is seeking an experienced Sous Chef to lead a brand-new kitchen within Melksham Gardens. You will shape menus, establish kitchen processes and deliver a high-quality dining experience for residents.

You will manage day-to-day catering operations, support the Executive Chef, train and motivate the team, control food costs, and ensure safety and hygiene standards in a dynamic, expanding not-for-profit care home environment.

Qualifications

• 706-2/3 qualification or equivalent.
• 1–2 years’ experience working in a fine-dining catering environment.
• Excellent knowledge of culinary ingredients and practices.
• Experience with processes and planning to deliver high-quality food and hospitality standards.
• Good financial awareness around food costing and budget management.
• Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a first-class dining and hospitality experience for residents.
• Support day-to-day management of catering service with Executive Chef.
• Lead, motivate and develop kitchen colleagues.
• Contribute to menu planning, food preparation and service.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene and safety.
• Manage food costs and ensure consistent service."
• Cover Executive Chef duties when required.
• Help establish kitchen team and new operating routines.
