Job summary

Brake Press Setter role in Tamworth requires setting up, adjusting and operating CNC and conventional press brakes to manufacture sheet metal parts to spec. You will read drawings, select tooling, program settings and perform first-off checks to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.

Applicants should have prior experience with brake presses, CNC presses, and familiarity with bending processes. A strong attention to detail and ability to meet production targets are essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Brake Press Setter in sheet metal/manufacturing.
• Experience setting and operating CNC press brake machines.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
• Knowledge of sheet metal bending processes, tooling selection and bend allowances.
• Good understanding of dimensional tolerances and quality inspection methods.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and conventional press brake machines per drawings and production requirements.
• Select, install and align tooling, punches and dies for each job.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and bend schedules.
• Program and adjust machine settings including bend angles, back gauges and material positioning.
• Carry out first-off inspections and dimensional checks to ensure tolerances are met.
• Identify and fix bending inaccuracies, machine setting issues and tooling problems.
• Ensure components meet quality standards and deadlines.
• Monitor production runs and maintain consistent quality.
• Complete production paperwork and inspection records accurately.
• Perform routine machine checks and basic maintenance, report faults promptly.
• Maintain a clean, safe working environment in line with procedures and health & safety.
• Collaborate with production supervisors, quality control and team members to ensure efficient workflow.

Job Title: Brake Press Setter

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Brake Press Setter to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating and adjusting CNC and conventional press brake machines to manufacture sheet metal components to the required specifications, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC and conventional press brake machines in accordance with engineering drawings and production requirements.
• Select, install and align the correct tooling, punches and dies for each job.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and bending schedules.
• Programme and adjust machine settings, including bend angles, back gauges and material positioning, where required.
• Carry out first-off inspections and dimensional checks to ensure components meet specified tolerances.
• Identify and correct bending inaccuracies, machine setting issues and tooling problems.
• Ensure all components are produced to the required quality standards and within production deadlines.
• Monitor production runs and maintain consistent quality throughout the manufacturing process.
• Complete production paperwork, inspection records and job documentation accurately.
• Carry out routine machine checks and basic maintenance, reporting any faults or defects promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment in accordance with company procedures and health and safety requirements.
• Work closely with production supervisors, quality control and other team members to ensure efficient workflow.

Skills and Experience Required

• Previous experience as a Brake Press Setter within a sheet metal or manufacturing environment.
• Experience setting and operating CNC press brake machines.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
• Knowledge of sheet metal bending processes, tooling selection and bend allowances.
• Good understanding of dimensional tolerances and quality inspection methods.
• Ability to use measuring equipment such as verniers, callipers and angle gauges.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality components.
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to manage workload effectively and meet production targets.
• A good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with CNC press brake control systems such as Bystronic, Amada, Trumpf or LVD.
• Experience working with a range of sheet metals, including mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
• Experience setting up machines for both batch production and one-off components.
• Previous experience in a precision sheet metal fabrication environment.
