Job summary

British Museum Box Office Assistant in Bloomsbury, London, joins our Visitor & Security Services team to welcome visitors and help them access exhibitions, events and other museum experiences. This role provides a crucial front-line service in one of the world’s leading cultural institutions.

  • Experience in a busy customer-facing environment, ideally within a box office, contact centre or similar service setting.
  • Outstanding communication and telephone skills with experience providing high-quality customer service.
  • Confidence promoting, recommending or upselling products and services.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy and good IT skills, including experience using databases and Microsoft-based systems.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and professional in a fast-paced environment, with a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

  • Sell and promote tickets for exhibitions, lectures, events and other Museum activities.
  • Process bookings, including school and group bookings, accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide information and guidance to visitors about exhibitions, facilities, events and the visitor offer and promote Museum Membership and other visitor services.
  • Respond to enquiries by telephone and escalates issues when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases and handle all administrative tasks associated with bookings including processing payments.

About the role

We're looking for a Box Office Assistant to join our Visitor & Security Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of an organisation with a world-renowned collection and a mission to inspire curiosity, understanding and engagement with cultures across the globe. The role provides a vital first point of contact for our visitors, helping them access exhibitions, events, lectures and other Museum experiences.

This role offers far more than a traditional box office position. As part of the Museum team, you'll have the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of the organisation's work, collections and public programmes. You will join a small, supportive team of four Box Office Assistants, working closely together to deliver an excellent service and contribute to continuous improvements across the function.

About you
