Job summary

BWSC in the UK is seeking a Boiler Combustion Engineer based at our UK Head Office, The Genesis Centre, Birchwood, to combine hands-on engineering support with long-term reliability improvements.

You will work with site teams and engineering colleagues to improve boiler performance, support troubleshooting, and drive technical improvements across UK sites. A engineering degree and power plant experience are preferred; travel within the UK and internationally is expected.

Qualifications

  • Preferably, you hold an engineering degree and have a strong interest in thermodynamics, mechanical properties, and control.
  • Experience and knowledge of power plants or other energy facilities and associated equipment is desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with various stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to operating sites within the UK and occasionally internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Optimise boiler operation to achieve stability, efficiency and emissions according to set standards.
  • Monitor combustion quality and ensure efficient fuel utilisation.
  • Analyse fouling and erosion patterns in the boilers and suggest methods for mitigation.
  • Inspect boilers during outages and suggest maintenance activities to increase availability.
  • Coach and train operators to ensure efficient operation of the plants.
  • Assist with boiler and steam chemical control.
  • Assist with compliance with pressure equipment regulations.
  • Analyse operational plant data to identify process anomalies, degradation, and efficiency losses.
  • Prepare performance diagnostics, test plans, and follow-up reports for plant performance assessments.
  • Participate in troubleshooting missions on operating plants, supporting root-cause analyses and recommendation development.
  • Develop, maintain and improve core calculation tools, models, and process engineering templates.
  • Document lessons learned, update guidelines, and contribute to raising team capability through knowledge sharing.
  • Support standardisation efforts, including engineering rules, design bases, and process methodologies.

What will you do

As a Boiler Combustion Engineer, you will play a crucial role in combining practical hands‑on engineering support with long‑term reliability and maintenance development. What do you bring to the field

Preferably, you hold an engineering degree and have a strong interest in thermodynamics, mechanical properties, and control and with ample experience and knowledge of power plants or other energy facilities and associated equipment.

In addition, you hold:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with various departments and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel to operating sites within the UK and occasionally internationally
