Job summary

Altera Recruitment Group Ltd is supporting a specialist Energy from Waste operator in Stoke-on-Trent with a Boiler Operator role at its advanced thermal treatment facility. The position suits someone with boiler operations or heavy process experience who seeks a long-term career in renewables.

You will monitor and operate boilers and related equipment, optimise plant processes using the DCS system, respond to alarms, and maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

• Experience in boiler operations or heavy industrial processes.
• GCSE Maths and Science at Grade C / Level 5 or equivalent.
• Ability to work effectively in a shift team.
• BOAS, City & Guilds Small Thermal Plant, FLT, COSHH or HAZOP experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and operate boilers, turbines and associated plant equipment to maximise performance.
• Optimise plant processes using the DCS control system and monitor key parameters.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies to maintain safe operation.
• Operate overhead crane and carry out plant attendant duties including FLT operations.
• Maintain accurate operational records and ensure health, safety and environmental compliance.

Boiler Operator

Altera Recruitment Group is supporting a specialist Energy from Waste operator in the recruitment of a Boiler Operator for its advanced thermal treatment facility in Stoke-on-Trent.

This position is well suited to an individual with experience in boiler operations or heavy process industries who is looking to build a long term career within the renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities of the Boiler Operator

• Monitor and operate boilers, turbines and associated plant equipment to maximise performance and steam generation.
• Optimise plant processes using the DCS control system by monitoring temperature, pressure and flow, taking corrective action where required.
• Respond to alarms, faults, plant upsets and emergency situations to maintain safe and reliable operation.
• Operate the overhead waste crane and, when required, carry out plant attendant duties including FLT operations, loading and unloading vehicles and managing raw materials and ash removal.
• Maintain accurate operational records, support housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental procedures.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience within boiler operations or a heavy industrial process environment.
• GCSE Maths and Science at Grade C / Level 5 or equivalent.
• A reliable and proactive approach with the ability to work effectively within a shift team.
• Experience with DCS systems, process plant or a mechanical, electrical or instrumentation background would be advantageous.
• BOAS, City & Guilds Small Thermal Plant, FLT, COSHH or HAZOP experience would all be beneficial but are not essential.
