Job summary

Astute People’s Power team in Lincoln is recruiting a Boiler Operator for a Biomass site. The role offers a starting salary up to £45,000 with benefits and training opportunities.

You will operate from the Control Room using SCADA, ensure the safe operation of boilers, perform inspections, monitor performance, and support regulatory compliance. The position follows a 24/7 shift pattern with health and safety at the forefront.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 4, ONC, HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
• Experience operating boilers or process plant in biomass or power generation environments.
• Experience operating plant via a DCS/SCADA control system.
• BOAS qualification or equivalent boiler operating experience.
• Knowledge of permit-to-work systems and water treatment processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the biomass plant from the Control Room using SCADA.
• Ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation of boilers, superheaters and related equipment.
• Carry out routine inspections and respond to issues to maximise plant availability.
• Monitor performance and adjust operations to optimise efficiency.
• Maintain water quality and dosing to sustain boiler performance.
• Support regulatory and permit compliance.
• Act as an Authorised Person for permit-to-work and safe systems of work.
• Report defects and coordinate with maintenance to resolve issues.
• Keep accurate logs and shift handovers.
• Work in a 24/7 shift team with high health and safety standards.

Salary: GBP42000 - GBP45000 per annum

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading biomass company in the UK to recruit a Boiler Operator to join its Biomass site in Lincoln.

The Boiler Operator role comes with a starting salary of up to £45,000 + benefits and continued training opportunities.

If you're HNC qualified and have at least five years' experience operating steam turbines within the power generation industry.

Reporting to the Plant Manager you will:

• Operate and monitor the biomass plant from the Control Room using the site's SCADA control system.
• Ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of boilers, superheaters and associated process equipment.
• Carry out routine plant inspections and respond to operational issues to maximise plant availability.
• Monitor plant performance and make operational adjustments to optimise efficiency.
• Perform water quality testing and adjust chemical dosing to maintain boiler performance.
• Support environmental compliance by ensuring plant operations meet all regulatory and permit requirements.
• Act as an Authorised Person, supporting permit-to-work, lock-out/tag-out and safe systems of work.
• Report plant defects and work closely with the maintenance team to resolve equipment issues.
• Maintain accurate operational records, logs and shift handovers.
• Work safely as part of a 24/7 shift team, promoting high standards of health, safety and housekeeping.

We are looking for someone with the following:

• NVQ Level 4, ONC, HNC or equivalent qualification in an engineering discipline.
• Previous experience operating boilers or process plant within Biomass, Power Generation, Energy from Waste, Recycling, Waste Management or a similar industrial environment.
• Experience operating plant via a DCS or SCADA control system.
• BOAS qualification or equivalent boiler operating experience.
• Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, plant safety procedures and water treatment processes. WAMITAB qualifications would be advantageous.
• Willingness to work a shift pattern than includes Days and Night shifts
