Job summary

Birchwood Group is looking for an experienced Bodywork/Paint Technician to join the Pronto workshop in Eastbourne. You will prepare vehicles, mix colours, apply primers and coatings, and carry out SMART repairs to a high standard.

The role offers a 42.5-hour week (Mon-Fri 08:00-17:00, Sat 08:00-12:00 on a rota), 22 days holiday plus bank holidays, and benefits including health cash plan, employee assistance, pension, and a vehicle purchase scheme.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Paint Technician/Vehicle Sprayer in a busy bodyshop.
• Strong knowledge of modern paint systems, refinishing techniques, and colour matching.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload.
• Proactive team player with initiative and adaptability.
• Excellent attention to detail to deliver high-quality work.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles and panels for painting by sanding, masking, filling, priming, and prepping.
• Mix and match paint colours to manufacturer specifications and repair requirements.
• Apply primers, basecoats, and clear coats using spray-painting equipment.
• Refurbishing painted alloy wheels and carrying out SMART repairs.
• Carry out final quality checks before vehicles are released to customers.
• Maintain spray booths and paint equipment in a clean, safe condition.
• Follow health and safety regulations and PPE requirements.
• Work with workshop staff to ensure timely vehicle turnaround.

Overview

Birchwood Group is a forward-looking company with retail stores, workshops and facilities based across the south coast of Sussex and Hampshire.

We are looking for an experienced Bodywork/Paint Technician to join our team at our Pronto workshop in Eastbourne. In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out smart trade and retail repairs to an excellent standard.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Prepare vehicles and panels for painting by sanding, masking, filling, priming, and carrying out all necessary preparation work.
• Mix and match paint colours accurately to manufacturer specifications and repair requirements.
• Apply primers, basecoats, and clear coats using spray-painting equipment to achieve a high-quality finish.
• Refurbishing painted alloy wheels
• Carry out SMART repairs and full vehicle resprays as required.
• Inspect repaired and painted surfaces to ensure work meets company quality standards.
• Rectify paint defects, including runs, dust contamination, orange peel, and colour mismatches.
• Maintain spray booths, paint equipment, and tools in a clean and safe working condition.
• Follow health and safety regulations, including the correct use of PPE and handling of hazardous substances.
• Work closely with workshop staff to ensure efficient vehicle turnaround times.
• Ensure all work is completed within agreed timescales while maintaining high standards of workmanship.
• Manage paint and consumable stock levels, reporting shortages when necessary.
• Carry out final quality checks before vehicles are released to customers.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and professional working environment at all times.
• Support colleagues and assist with other bodyshop duties where required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

• Proven experience as a Paint Technician/Vehicle Sprayer within a busy bodyshop environment.
• Strong knowledge of modern paint systems, vehicle refinishing techniques, and colour‑matching processes.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise workload effectively.
• A proactive team player with the ability to work independently, use initiative, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to produce high‑quality work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Well organised, reliable, and accountable for maintaining high standards of workmanship.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet agreed deadlines.
• Commitment to health and safety requirements and maintaining a clean, organised work area.

Package:

Hours: 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday - 08:00 to 17:00, Saturday's 08.00 to 12.00 (1 in 2 on rota)

Holiday: 22 days per year + bank holidays
