Zusammenfassung

Balliol College, Oxford, seeks a Boatman to maintain and manage boats, equipment and boathouse facilities across Balliol, Magdalen and New Colleges. You will help ensure safe, secure and well‑maintained facilities supporting rowing activities for students, coaches and college partners.

Responsibilities include routine repairs, rigging, building maintenance, health and safety compliance, and liaising with Bursars.

Qualifikationen

• Experience in maintenance, repairs or facilities management, ideally in a boating, sporting or similar environment.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload across multiple sites.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, coaches, contractors and College staff.
• Proactive, reliable and able to work independently.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Experience of rowing boats, boating equipment or watersports facilities.
• Knowledge of rowing boat rigging, maintenance and repair.
• Experience of towing trailers and transporting boats.
• First Aid, Health & Safety or other relevant qualifications.
• Knowledge of the Oxford collegiate rowing environment and events such as Torpids and Summer Eights

Aufgaben

• Carry out minor repairs, rigging and maintenance for boats and equipment.
• Paint and decorate oars and sculls in club colours.
• Organise major repairs with approved boat repairers.
• Supervise Boathouses facilities and cleaning routines.
• Ensure health, hygiene and safety compliance; coordinate with Bursars.
• Maintain security of buildings and arrange contractor quotes.
• Support student activities, rigging demonstrations and boat transport to regattas.
• Maintain punts, leisure craft and yacht equipment.
• Service ergometer rowing machines and log repairs.
• Liaise with H&S auditors and ensure safety records are up to date.
