Job summary

Malvern College in Malvern, Worcestershire, is seeking a part-time House Assistant to support a boarding house of around 60 pupils aged 13 to 18. The role blends pastoral care, housekeeping and administration, and sits within a close house team under the Housemaster or Housemistress.

You’ll be a visible, approachable presence and help maintain standards in the house. Hours run on a rota 7.30am–7pm weekdays with weekend duties; 34 term weeks plus 3 extra weeks.

Qualifications

• Care for pupils with a calm, caring approach.
• Good organisation to manage a varied workload and admin tasks.
• Clear communication with pupils, colleagues and other departments.
• Willingness to drive pupils to appointments when needed.
• Weekend availability as part of a rota.
• Willingness to use basic IT and software packages.

Responsibilities

• Providing day-to-day pastoral care for pupils.
• Monitoring pupils' health and liaising with the Medical Centre.
• Handling pupil registrations, room plans, and travel arrangements for Leave Outs and holidays.
• Managing the boarding house inbox and routine administrative tasks.
• Giving the daily handover to colleagues.
• Ensuring mealtimes run smoothly and pupils eat well.
• Supervising studies, dormitories and common rooms.
• Overseeing cleaning, laundry, and working with the Domestic Bursar.
• Reporting maintenance issues to Estates and supporting house events.
• Opening and closing the house at term starts/ends and Leave Outs.
