We're looking for an experienced BEMS Project Engineer to join our growing Projects team. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong engineer who can take ownership of the delivery of Building Energy Management System projects from design and software engineering through to commissioning, client training, and final handover.
You'll play a key role in delivering energy-efficient and high-performing building control solutions across commercial, industrial, and public sector environments while working closely with clients, contractors, consultants, and project teams.
What You'll Be Doing
As a BEMS Project Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
- Delivering BMS projects from order receipt through to practical completion.
- Reviewing specifications, drawings, control philosophies, and customer requirements.
- Developing BMS software, graphics, points schedules, and project documentation.
- Configuring, testing, and commissioning BMS systems.
- Identifying and resolving technical issues throughout project delivery.
- Reporting project progress, risks, variations, and programme requirements.
- Delivering customer demonstrations, training, snag resolution, and handovers.
- Supporting cost control through effective engineering and project management.
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures, legislation, and Health & Safety requirements.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
- Proven experience delivering Building Energy Management System (BEMS/BMS) projects from inception through to commissioning and handover.
- Strong experience in BMS software engineering, graphics development, testing and commissioning.
- Experience working across commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, retail, or public sector buildings.
- A solid understanding of HVAC systems and building services controls.
- Experience managing technical interfaces with clients, consultants, M&E contractors, and subcontractors.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining quality and programme delivery.
Essential Technical Knowledge
You should have strong knowledge and experience of:
- BMS design principles, system architectures, and control strategies.
- Communication protocols including BACnet and Modbus.
- Network architectures such as TCP/IP, MSTP, and RS485.
- Field devices including sensors, actuators, valves, dampers, relays, metering equipment, and variable speed drives.
- Supervisor software, graphical interfaces, and control systems.
- Reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Project planning, programme management, and change control processes.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
- Qualification in BEMS, Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline.
- Relevant trade qualification.
- Current Health & Safety qualification.
- CSCS or ECS card.
- Manufacturer training or experience with Trend, Tridium, Distech, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or equivalent BMS platforms.
You'll be a technically capable engineer who is:
- Highly competent in BMS software engineering and commissioning.
- A strong problem solver who can diagnose and resolve complex controls issues.
- Organised and capable of planning work across multiple projects.
- Commercially aware and focused on delivering value to clients.
- A confident communicator, comfortable working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptable, resilient, and motivated by delivering successful project outcomes.
