Job summary

Up Front Recruitment is seeking an experienced BMS Design Engineer / Project Engineer for its Intelligent Buildings division. You will support live City of London work and then take on full Project Engineer responsibilities on a new project from December.

You will work across design, software, installation, commissioning and handover, gaining exposure to BIM, 3D modelling and interfacing with mechanical, electrical, and IT teams in a long-established UK contractor.

Qualifications

• Previous BMS engineering experience covering design, commissioning or project delivery.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC plant, BMS controls and electrical interfaces.
• Experience producing or reviewing BMS points schedules and control strategies.
• Good understanding of control panels, field devices and control wiring.
• Ability to read mechanical, electrical, controls and network drawings.
• Good technical writing and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce BMS points schedules, Descriptions of Operation and detailed HVAC control strategies.
• Develop and review control panel designs from initial schematics through to installation.
• Select BMS controllers, supervisors, servers, valves, actuators, meters and field devices.
• Produce valve, damper actuator, energy meter and field device schedules.
• Develop BMS and EMS network architecture, including controller hierarchy, IP addressing and VLAN requirements.
• Prepare marked-up drawings showing field devices, cable routes, plant connections and containment interfaces.
• Review mechanical and electrical design changes and identify their effect on the BMS package.
• Coordinate BIM and 3D modelling requirements.
• Work with software and graphics engineers to make sure systems follow the agreed control strategy.
• Coordinate interfaces across mechanical, electrical, public health, fire, security and IT systems.
• Attend consultant workshops and support technical design approvals.
• Identify scope gaps, design risks and technical issues before they affect delivery.

BMS Design Engineer / Project Engineer

Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 + package

Contract rate: DOE

Location: City of London

Position: Permanent PAYE or self-employed contract

Up Front Recruitment is working with a long-established UK engineering services contractor to recruit a BMS Design Engineer / Project Engineer for its Intelligent Buildings division.

The company designs, installs and integrates the digital, mechanical and electrical systems used within major modern buildings. Its in-house teams cover BMS, EMS, smart building technology, communications, network infrastructure and integrated digital systems.

With more than a century of experience in UK engineering services, the business has the resources and technical knowledge to manage projects from design and installation through to commissioning, handover and ongoing optimisation.

About the position

You will initially support the engineering team on a live City of London project, taking responsibility for defined BMS design and technical work packages.

From December, the position will progress towards full Project Engineer responsibility on a new project.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced BMS engineer who wants to move beyond a purely design or commissioning role. You will gain responsibility across the full project lifecycle and work closely with design, software, installation, commissioning and project management teams.

Experience required

• Previous BMS engineering experience covering design, commissioning or project delivery
• Strong knowledge of HVAC plant, BMS controls and electrical interfaces
• Experience producing or reviewing BMS points schedules and control strategies
• Good understanding of control panels, field devices and control wiring
• Experience with BACnet, Modbus and/or M-BusAbility to read mechanical, electrical, controls and network drawings
• Good technical writing and documentation skills
• Confidence working with clients, consultants, contractors and project teams
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
