We are looking for Senior, Principal, Associate, and Associate Director (Building Management Systems) Controls engineers to join our UK Building Technology Systems team.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate delivery of HVAC controls, including motor control panel design, production, software configuration, graphic packages, and installation and commissioning scope detail.
  • Apply controls engineering expertise to improve mechanical and electrical building system designs.
  • Engage with wider design teams across multi‑disciplinary projects to advocate for and achieve desired BMS and smart building outcomes outside of our direct design responsibility.
  • Lead systems integration design activities across building services systems.
  • Produce detailed performance specifications for the discipline, subject to review before issue.
Your Team
  • Support clients in strategising, designing, and implementing innovative solutions to help make cities, buildings, and businesses better.
  • Work on a variety of projects ranging from high‑rise towers such as 22 Bishopsgate and 40 Leadenhall to hyper‑scale data centres, stadia such as Fulham Football Club, and transformative healthcare projects such as the Leeds Hospital of the Future programme.
  • Assist in delivering specialist ICT and smart consulting across the built environment.
What We Will Be Looking For
  • Strategic BMS controls engineering experience and understanding of BMS software and best practice.
  • Experience delivering HVAC operation and sequence of operations documentation.
  • Consulting experience, familiarity with RIBA stages of work, multidisciplinary collaboration, and project leadership.
  • Mechanical engineering background with preference for MEP engineers focused on controls.
  • Experience in control and automation at technician/engineer level in critical and secure environments.
  • Detailed knowledge of major manufacturers and systems (Tridium Niagara, Schneider, Siemens, Honeywell, Trend, Delta Controls, etc.).
  • Design and specify implementation of these technologies, documenting formal requirements for approval and development, and roadmaps to implementation.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and internal resources to develop and integrate BMS sub‑disciplines, including master system integrator contractors.
  • Awareness of HVAC technology trends, energy consumption reduction, smart building technology trends, and standards such as BDNS, NABERS UK, WELL, LEED, BREEAM SmartScore, WiredScore, etc.

  • Completion of the three BCIA technical training modules (BCM01, BCM02, BCM03) in invigilated conditions.
  • CIBSE or Engineering Council accredited experience leading to Chartership.
  • Problem‑solving and analytical skills, project management experience, ownership over work, and ability to deliver for clients.
Benefits
  • Hybrid working policy: work from home up to two days a week and collaborate in modern UK offices.
  • Work‑life balance, “WSP My Hour” allowing one hour each day for personal activities, flexible part‑time arrangements, purchase of additional leave, and use of bank holiday entitlement.
  • Health & wellbeing support through the Thrive programme, virtual GP service, gymflex scheme, and a comprehensive menopause support package.
  • Development and training opportunities, mentorship, and chartership pathways.
