Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Building Services professional to lead multi-disciplinary design on landmark UK projects. You will work within the Birmingham team, coordinating with clients and design teams to deliver detailed specifications and feasible design solutions.

You will mentor junior staff, review programmes, and ensure resources meet technical and commercial targets while maintaining regulatory compliance. The role supports hybrid working within the UK.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering UK Building Services projects across multiple sectors.
  • Ability to engage with clients, contractors and design teams in technical discussions and coordination.
  • Ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically to professionals and clients.
  • Detailed understanding of applicable regulations and how to demonstrate this through calculation.
  • Experience with AMTECH or Electrical OM software to allocate/direction of work on projects.
  • Experience with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allocate/direction of work on projects.
  • Must be able to obtain UK Security Check (SC).

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specifications.
  • Review design programmes and ensure sufficient resources to complete works on time and budget.
  • Work with initiative with minimal supervision on technical aspects of the discipline.
  • Supervise completion of detailed designs and mentor staff.
  • Lead feasibility studies for projects within the discipline.
  • Provide training and mentoring of staff.

A Little More About Your Role…
  • Take responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issue.
  • Reviewing design programmes and ensuring that sufficient resource is available to complete the works in line with technical and commercial performance and delivery.
  • Able to work using initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of their discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
  • Supervise the completion of detailed designs and supervise the work of others in this function.
  • Consider the feasibility of the project, specific to the discipline, and lead the overall feasibility study for the project.
  • Training and mentoring of staff.

  • You will be based in our award winning Birmingham office at The Mailbox, offering easy commuting options and amenities just around the corner.
  • Our growing Birmingham team consists of 50 plus MEP engineers. You will be working closely with these likeminded individuals on exciting and challenging Building Services MEP projects across healthcare, commercial offices, residential, industry, defense and sports & leisure.
  • The team will be supported by local, regional and international experts.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…
  • A proven track record of delivering a variety of UK Building Services projects both in terms of scale and sector.
  • Show ability to engage with clients, contractors and design team members in technical discussions, co-ordination and debates.
  • Have an ability to sketch and communicate technical detail graphically and effectively to both construction professionals and client teams.
  • Have a detailed understanding of the regulations applicable to the discipline and how to demonstrate this through calculation.
  • Demonstrate a working understanding of latest electrical design software packages such as AMTECH or Electrical OM software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Experience of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allow the allocation / direction of work on projects.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
