Job summary

Antech Diagnostics is seeking an experienced Blood Sciences Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the Blood Sciences departments, ensuring accurate, timely and high-quality diagnostic services for veterinary professionals and animals alike.

You will manage workloads, drive continuous improvement, and provide technical leadership across haematology, chemistry, serology and cytology while maintaining excellent client service and budget awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
• Recent experience in high-throughput automated clinical diagnostic lab with analyser operation, QC, sample prep and troubleshooting.
• Proven line management experience including recruitment and performance management.
• Experience working within a Quality Management System such as ISO 15189 or ISO 17025.
• Strong knowledge of haematology, blood smear morphology and related follow-up investigations.
• Experience with automated haematology and clinical chemistry analysers, including setup and troubleshooting.
• Experience in urinalysis (physical, chemical, microscopic).
• Knowledge of cytology sample prep, fixation, staining, and serology testing (ELISA/IFA).
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills; customer-focused and quality-driven.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day activities across haematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology and serology, managing workloads, staffing and resources.
• Lead and develop associates, including recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management.
• Provide technical bench expertise across Blood Sciences as required.
• Oversee analyser operation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting with internal teams, suppliers and engineers.
• Manage departmental inventory and ensure availability of equipment, reagents and consumables.
• Ensure compliance with QA, QC, Health & Safety and SOPs, contributing to reviews and improvements.
• Collaborate across the laboratory to maintain an efficient and responsive service.
• Provide technical support to Customer Service and veterinary clients; resolve queries.
• Monitor department performance, prepare reports and contribute to budget planning.
• Drive continuous improvement to uphold quality, efficiency and customer service.
