Job summary

VolkerLaser, part of VolkerWessels UK, seeks an experienced Blasting and Spraying Technician to deliver high-quality surface preparation and coating applications on bridges and major infrastructure.

Based in South Queensferry with future UK-wide projects, the role requires 4+ years in industrial blasting and spray painting, ICATS Gold or TTP Gold certification, and a strong safety focus. CSCS card preferred.

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience in industrial blasting and spray painting.
• ICATS Gold or TTP Gold certification.
• Experience in blasting and spray painting of concrete structures.
• Experience on bridges, highways and major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of blasting and spray painting equipment and coating specs.
• Solid health and safety understanding in industrial painting environments.
• Valid CSCS card.

Responsibilities

• Surface preparation to SA2–SA3 and ST2–ST3 standards.
• Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats to specified dry film thickness.
• Operate and maintain blasting and airless spray painting equipment; ensure safe operation.
• Follow industry specifications (SHW5000, SHW1900, Network Rail M24).
• Identify and report surface defects such as laminations, drips, runs, blistering.
• Follow all work instructions and maintain safety and production targets.

Job description

VolkerLaser repairs, strengthens and waterproofs concrete and steel structures, offering a tailored package of specialist works to clients across the UK. About the role

Blasting and Spraying Technician
Location: South Queensferry (Central Belt of Scotland and UK wide)

We are seeking an experienced/highly skilled Industrial Blaster/Sprayers to join our Industrial Coatings division. This role is critical to delivering high-quality surface preparation and coating application works in line with project specifications, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate will have proven experience working on bridges, highways, and major infrastructure projects, with a strong understanding of industrial blasting and protective coating systems.

Candidate will be Initially based in South Queensferry, with future projects being across the Central Belt of Scotland and throughout the UK as required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform surface preparation to the required standards, including abrasive blasting to SA2–SA3 and mechanical preparation to ST2–ST3.
• Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats to the specified dry film thickness
• using high quality brush and spray painting techniques.
  Operate and maintain industrial blasting and airless spray painting equipment, demonstrating strong competence in setup, troubleshooting, and safe operation.
• Work in accordance with recognised industry specifications, including SHW5000, SHW1900, and Network Rail M24.
• Identify and report surface preparation and coating defects such as laminations, drips, runs, and blistering.
• Follow all work instructions, maintain safety standards, and achieve production targets

About you

• Minimum of 4 years' experience in industrial blasting and spray painting.
• Current ICATS Gold or TTP Gold certification.
• Previous experience in the blasting and spray painting of concrete structures.
• Previous experience working on bridges, highways, and major infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of blasting and spray painting equipment, as well as relevant coating and paint specifications.
• Solid understanding of health and safety requirements within industrial painting environments.
• Good manual dexterity, with the ability to handle equipment and materials safely and effectively.
• Valid CSCS card
