Job summary

G2 Legal Limited is seeking a Senior Biotechnology Patent Attorney to join a leading IP practice in Greater London. The role focuses on advising clients in biotechnology and life sciences on complex patent matters, with a strong emphasis on contentious work and UPC proceedings.

The successful candidate will handle high-value disputes, develop strategic protection and enforcement plans, and contribute to client relationships while mentoring junior lawyers.

Qualifications

• 5-8 PQE in biotechnology or life sciences patent practice.
• Strong drafting, analytical and communication skills.
• Interest in or experience with contentious patent work.
• Experience with UPC or international disputes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on complex patent matters within biotechnology and life sciences.
• Work on a varied portfolio of contentious IP matters, including high-value patent disputes.
• Get involved in UPC proceedings and other significant international patent litigation.
• Provide strategic advice on patent protection, enforcement and dispute resolution.
• Work closely with clients and colleagues on technically complex matters involving biotechnology and life sciences.
• Contribute to development of client relationships and the wider contentious practice.
• Support and mentor junior colleagues, sharing technical expertise and experience.
• Play an active role in continued growth and development of the team.

With a particularly strong contentious practice and a growing presence in major international patent disputes, the firm offers an excellent platform for an experienced attorney looking to take the next step in their career.

The role has arisen due to continued growth and will suit an experienced Biotechnology Patent Attorney with an interest in developing their contentious expertise. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a varied range of interesting and technically challenging matters, including involvement in a substantial portfolio of UPC litigation, with the firm currently handling more than 30 UPC cases. Alongside the quality of work, there is a clear focus on long-term career development, with a structured programme designed to support the successful candidate's progression towards Partnership.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise clients on complex patent matters within the biotechnology and wider life sciences sectors.
• Work on a varied portfolio of contentious intellectual property matters, including high-value patent disputes.
• Get involved in UPC proceedings and other significant international patent litigation.
• Provide strategic advice on patent protection, enforcement and dispute resolution.
• Work closely with clients and colleagues on technically complex matters involving innovative biotechnology and life sciences technologies.
• Contribute to the development of client relationships and the wider contentious practice.

Skills and Experience:

• 5-8 PQE
• Significant post-qualification experience within biotechnology or a closely related life sciences specialism.
• Strong technical knowledge and experience advising on complex patent matters.
• An interest in or existing experience of contentious patent work.
• Exposure to UPC proceedings or wider international patent disputes would be advantageous.
• Excellent analytical, drafting and communication skills.
• A commercially minded approach, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
• Ambition to take on greater responsibility and progress towards Partnership.
