The NHS Blood and Transplant is seeking a Biomedical Scientist in Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI) to support diagnostic and transfusion services across the UK. You will work in a specialist laboratory, perform and interpret tests, and operate advanced equipment to contribute to blood and tissue product delivery.

Job description

As a Biomedical Scientist in Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI), youll use your scientific expertise to help deliver safe and effective diagnostic and transfusion services that directly support patients across the UK. Working in a specialist laboratory environment, youll perform and interpret a wide range of tests, operate advanced laboratory equipment, and contribute to the delivery of blood and tissue products. Youll play an important role in maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety, while working alongside experienced colleagues in a collaborative and supportive team. This is an opportunity to contribute to life-saving services, develop specialist knowledge, and continue building your career within NHS Blood and Transplant., Use specialist laboratory techniques and technology to perform diagnostic testing that supports the safe treatment of patients.

Interpret test results accurately and make evidence-based decisions to help maintain the highest standards of patient and product safety.

Communicate scientific and technical information clearly with colleagues, healthcare professionals and partner laboratories.

Work with a range of specialist equipment, carrying out routine maintenance, calibration and quality checks to ensure reliable performance.

Contribute to services that support patients with complex transfusion and transplantation needs through specialist testing and analysis.

Help maintain quality standards by following laboratory procedures, regulatory requirements and good manufacturing practice.

Support continuous improvement by contributing to service developments, updating procedures and helping resolve quality incidents.

Share your knowledge by supporting the training and development of colleagues, trainees and support staff.

Build your expertise through continuing professional development and opportunities to learn across specialist laboratory areas

Being able to work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice, depending on specialty.

You will be required to participate in the shift rota and on call rotas and to provide cover during operational emergencies.
