Job summary

De Montfort University in Leicester is seeking a Technical Instructor (Biomedical Engineering) to support practical teaching, run laboratory sessions, and guide students in using biomedical equipment. This 0.6 FTE role (22.20 hours/week) is based at Gateway House, with responsibilities for preparing labs, equipment maintenance and safety compliance.

The ideal candidate will hold a Biomedical Engineering degree or equivalent, with lab experience and strong organisational and communication skills,

Qualifications

• A degree, HND or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with laboratory, engineering or medical technology/equipment.
• Knowledge of biomedical engineering principles and practical applications.
• Commitment to health and safety and delivering high-quality technical support.

Responsibilities

• Support practical teaching, lab sessions and project-based learning.
• Prepare and maintain biomedical engineering laboratories and equipment.
• Provide technical instruction and guidance to students and staff.
• Ensure health and safety compliance and risk assessments.
• Maintain lab equipment and coordinate servicing and repairs.
• Procure and manage lab consumables, equipment and resources.
• Support student projects, dissertations and research activities.
• Contribute to improving laboratory practices and facilities.
• Undergo required training on medical equipment as needed.
