Hiring: BI Architect - Oracle Analytics & Access

Location: London (Canary Wharf)

Duration: 12-Month Contract

Workstream: Finance / Operations Reporting Modernisation

Are you an experienced Solution Architect / Lead Engineer with deep expertise in Oracle Analytics, Python, and legacy Access modernization? We are looking for a hands-on Lead Architect to drive the end-to-end migration and modernization of an enterprise Microsoft Access & Oracle reporting environment into a modern Oracle Analytics Server (OAS), BI Publisher, and Python-driven automation architecture.

Role Overview

In this role, you will lead the assessment, design, build, and deployment of a replacement reporting framework for a legacy MS Access/VBA application. You will work across data layer engineering, OAS/BI Publisher builds, Python ETL/automation, and stakeholder engagement within a financial services / enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Discovery & Assessment: Inventory legacy MS Access databases (.mdb/.accdb), linked tables, pass-through queries, macros, and VBA logic to define target-state architecture.
  • Oracle DB Engineering: Develop and tune complex Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, views, materialized views, and stored procedures. Analyze execution plans, AWR/ASH evidence, and TEMP/PGA usage for high-volume workloads.
  • OAS & BI Publisher: Build interactive OAS dashboards, analyses, and BI Publisher data models, layouts, bursting, and automated schedules.
  • Python Automation: Design production-grade Python scripts (pandas, oracledb, SQLAlchemy, openpyxl, etc.) to replace Access macros, automate extraction, and deliver automated report packs.
  • Testing & Delivery: Conduct parallel runs, complete data reconciliation, establish rollback plans, and deliver production runbooks and team support handovers.
Required Experience & Skills
  • 8+ years of Oracle DB development and SQL performance tuning.
  • 5+ years in OAS / OBIEE and BI Publisher development.
  • 5+ years in Python development for data extraction, transformation, and reporting automation.
  • 3+ years migrating legacy Microsoft Access / VBA applications.
  • Strong experience in Financial Services or highly regulated enterprise environments preferred.
  • Experience with DevOps concepts, Git, CI/CD, and enterprise schedulers (e.g., Control-M, Autosys).
