Job summary

A&O Shearman in Belfast is seeking a Management Accountant to join the Financial Control team. The role supports UK offices, focuses on P&L/balance sheet, journals, reconciliations, and reporting to deadlines.

You will work with the Team Lead to deliver accurate monthly results, assist budgeting/forecasting, and contribute to audits and process improvements. A professional accounting qualification and up to 3 years post-qualification experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Recognised professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with up to 3 years post-qualification experience.
• Experience in a professional services or comparable environment.

Responsibilities

• Support monthly management accounting for UK offices, including P&L and balance sheet reviews.
• Post journals, review costs, and ensure balances are supported and explained.
• Run monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate movements and clear aged items.
• Prepare monthly variance analysis vs budget/forecast with key drivers.
• Support budgeting/forecasting cycles with high-quality assumptions.
• Maintain accurate data in finance systems and adhere to policies.
• Assist with statutory/group audit schedules and year-end close.
• Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and information quality.
• Collaborate with Team Lead and Financial Control on wider finance initiatives.
• Communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
• Manage competing month-end, forecasting, and BAU priorities.
