Job summary

A&O Shearman is seeking a Management Accountant to join its Belfast-based Financial Control team. You will support UK offices’ monthly management accounting, review P&L and balance sheets, and help ensure accurate, timely reporting.

Ideal candidates are ACA/ACCA/CIMA with up to 3 years PQE, able to prioritise work to tight deadlines, and capable of delivering analysis and insights to non-finance stakeholders while contributing to process improvements.

Qualifications

• Must be a member of a recognised professional accounting body (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent).
• Up to 3 years post-qualification experience in a professional services or comparable environment.
• Ability to deliver high-quality reporting under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounting for the UK offices, including P&L and balance sheet to agreed timetables.
• Post journals, review costs, ensure all balances are fully supported, understood, and explained.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigate movements and clear aged items.
• Prepare monthly variance analysis versus budget and forecast, clearly explaining key drivers.
• Support budgeting and forecasting cycles with high-quality assumptions built on data.
• Maintain strong financial control and accuracy in finance systems and policies.
• Contribute to the statutory and group audit process with audit-ready schedules.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and data quality.
• Work with the Team Lead and Financial Control team on wider finance initiatives.
• Communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
